What is a feral cat?

Many of the cats seen around Savannah and the surrounding areas are not necessarily stray cats, they are feral cats.. These cats have returned to their natural or feral state and are no longer considered domesticated cats. In most cases, they do not seek attention from humans, even a caretaker cannot touch a majority of a colony.

The start of a feral cat.
1. A cat is described as being feral because they had been lost or abandoned or were born in the wild. By surviving in the wild, the cat returns to a feral or untamed state..

A feral cat colony develops.

2. When several feral cats occupy the same area they are called e a colony. A colony can be as few as just 2 cats or as many as 30.

Feral cats reproduce exponentially.

3. When the two cats begin having litters of kittens the colony grows exponentially. A single cat can have up to 3 litters a year containing 5 to 7 kittens per litter. In 7 years the colony’s offspring can produce 420,000 new kittens. A female can start reproducing at the age of 4 months (yes, months),
